Your Pregnancy This Week
You

If your baby was born prematurely from this week on, survival is possible (with a lot of assistance).

It's common for pregnant couples to make up a nickname for their baby before it's born. Be careful though, because it can sometimes stick for years and you could find yourself having to explain yourself!

Baby

The face is now fully formed with eyelashes, eyebrows and hair. This will still be white due to lack of pigment, but is now starting to change color.

Your baby's transparent skin is gradually becoming more opaque, and it’s taking on a fresh, pink glow, due to the small capillaries (the body's smallest blood vessels) that have recently formed.

Symptoms

You may notice that your eyes are more sensitive to light, and feel and dry. This is a perfectly normal pregnancy symptom known as dry-eye syndrome and can be treated with artificial tears, drops or ointments, but check with your doctor/pharmacist/optometrist what's best to use. Medications over the counter may not be suitable for you while you're pregnant.

Tips

While you're weeks away from having your baby, it's time to start thinking about maternity leave. Speak to your employer / manager / HR about this sooner rather than later.

When travelling in a vehicle place the seat belt across the thighs and above the tummy, rather than across the middle of the tummy. This will prevent any undue pressure on the baby if you are involved in an accident.
