Only one more week of the 'embryonic period' (when your baby is an embryo) and then your pregnancy will be in the 'fetal period' (when your baby becomes a fetus). As your baby, placenta and amniotic waters continue to grow, so does the size of your uterus. You may be feeling a bit tighter or thicker around the tummy but there still won't be any external signs just yet.
Your baby's heart can now be heard with a Doppler ultrasound, a hand-held device that can pick up the sound of the heart. Your baby's eyes are still developing but the eyelids are now formed and covering the developing eyes. The head is now more rounded and the ears are now visible. Spontaneous movements of her arms and legs begin, now that muscles are forming.
You're probably feeling tired and rightly so, growing a baby is hard work! Fatigue is a common pregnancy symptom, especially during the first trimester. But you'll be glad to know that your energy levels will increase during the second trimester. However, it's likely that your experience fatigue again in the third trimester.
Nausea and vomiting - try foods with ginger in them to relieve your symptoms. It's long been used as a stomach settler and studies found that it can help those queasy feelings. Try ginger cookies, gingerbread, gingersnaps or add a thin slice to tea or hot water. You can even try sipping ginger ale.
