Measuring your trimester by Gestation is the most common method. This is most likely what your doctors will be referring to when they discuss your trimesters. Dates are calculated based on your Last Menstrual Period.

Congratulations! You're officially in your third trimester.
You'll probably start to think about the position of your baby now. At this point it's probably too early to tell just by feeling the abdomen. And your baby may continue to change positions for another few weeks. By then your midwife should be able to tell whether your baby's head is facing downwards or not.
Your baby's nostrils and nose are starting to work this week, she can now smell! And the brain changes from being smooth, to the maze of ridges and grooves we associate brains with.
Your baby also continues to fill out, becoming plumper. She now weighs around 2.5 pounds (1kg). Your baby is probably getting ready to move into the birth position too, with head facing downwards.
Your expanding uterus may be placing extra pressure on your rectum, causing you to lose some control over the muscles in your rear. Along with your sluggish digestive system (due to pregnancy hormones that relax intestinal muscles) and you may find that you’re more gassy at the moment. Try to have five to six small meals a day, instead of three main ones.
Your baby will absorb the majority of its iron stores during the third trimester, so be sure to eat iron-rich foods such as red meat, pork, poultry, seafood, dark leafy greens such as spinach, tofu and iron-fortified cereals, breads & pastas.
